Sheila was the Chosen One of 1300 AD and the ex-fiancée of Ash Williams. For a period of time, she lived with Williams in Detroit, Michigan in the 21st Century, though eventually she returned to her native medieval England.

This version of Sheila first appeared as a non-speaking cameo in Army of Darkness: Ashes 2 Ashes #1, but made her full proper debut in Ashes 2 Ashes #3.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Very little is known about Sheila's early years, except that she cared for her brother after the death of their parents from a plague sweeping across Europe.[1]

Meeting Ash Williams[]

Years later, Sheila met the time-displaced Ash Williams, who had been sent to 1300 AD via a portal created by the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis. While she initially resented Ash (believing him to be a solider of Henry The Red), she soon realized that he was in fact "The Chosen One" spoken of in the Book of The Dead that would save them from the terror of the Deadites. Shortly thereafter, she would be abducted by Ash's evil clone and turned into a Deadite herself. After the battle at Castle Kandar and the destruction of this "Evil Ash", Sheila would be released from her possession.

In the days that followed, Deadites once again attempted to get their hands on the Necronomicon, and Sheila was once again possessed.[2] However, this event would be erased from history after The Wise Man fled to the 21st Century to aid Ash Williams in a quest to destroy the Necronomicon by taking it to the place of it's creation in Egypt. This mission resulted in the combined armies of Lord Arthur and Henry The Red (who were just a few hours fresh from the battle of Castle Kandar) arriving in the future to aid Williams in another fight against a battalion of the undead. At some point after the skirmish, Sheila arrived through the time portal and gave Ash a congratulatory kiss. When the rift in time was getting ready to close, Sheila stepped back through the portal and returned to the Middle Ages.[3] After getting a glimpse of Ash in action in Egypt, Sheila began longing to be with Williams in his fight against the armies of darkness, and with the help of The Wise Man, she opened her own time rift and managed to fall directly into Ash's lap just as he was riding away from the Tomb of The Necronomicon.[4] Unbeknownst to Sheila, her absence from her native time period allowed for her own evil doppelganger to escape the Mirror Dimension and assume control of Castle Kandar and it's inhabitants.[5]

Living In The Future[]

Shelia returned with Ash to the United States, where she found employment at S-Mart. While working at the store, Sheila also found a rival for Ash's affections in a woman named Mindy, who had developed a crush on Williams after he had saved her from a Deadite attacking the store shortly after his return from 1300 AD. On a seemingly normal day, all hell would be unleashed at S-Mart when it was revealed that store-owner Mr. Smart had been possessed by a Deadite spirit after the Necronomicon had found him vacationing in Egypt.[6] Both Sheila and Mindy were taken prisoner by Smart, and transformed into Deadites after Ash had been sent to the 26th Century.[7] When Ash returned from the future, he was forced to kill the Deadite Mindy, but managed to free Sheila after confessing his feelings towards her.[8] Police would be notified of this event at the store, and Ash and Sheila would be taken into custody by the authorities. While Ash would end up being sent to Arkham Asylum in Massachusetts, Sheila would be let go (as the police assumed she was suffering from survivor's guilt in an attempt to rationalize the horrific events she witnessed).[9]

Death[]

At some point after Ash's incarceration, Sheila was relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and wrote numerous letters to Arkham officials in an attempt to release Williams. At another unspecified time shortly thereafter, Sheila was abducted and killed by the Mirror Dimension duplicate of Doctor Herbert West, with her body being used as part of a large patchwork flesh-monster created in his lab.[10] As a result of this, Sheila's soul was sent to the Mirror Dimension itself, a realm where spirits consumed by Deadites are sent.

Inside the Mirror Dimension, Sheila had numerous battles with the Deadites within, and found allies in the form of the "real" Herbert West, as well as a man simply known as "H.P." When Ash Williams was dragged into the dimension by a doppelganger during his attempted escape from Arkham, he was reunited with Sheila, who then led him to the fruit cellar sanctuary where she and her friends remained hidden from the Deadites. "H.P." briefed Williams on how to return to the world of the living, with Ash then promising to find Sheila's body in order for her to return as well.[11] Upon his return, Ash soon discovered the fate of Sheila's body at the hands of West's devious double.[10]

After his escape from Arkham, Ash ventured back to the cabin in the woods in order to destroy the "spiritual anchor" allowing Deadite spirits passage into the world of the living. Upon destroying the cabin itself, Williams was temporarily visited by Sheila's spirit (a ghostly projection from within the Mirror Dimension), warning him of the coming threat of the Anti-Christ should he fail to stop evil in it's countless forms.[12]

Return[]

Unbeknownst to either Sheila or Ash, Sheila's evil clone had spent the passing centuries in the shadows of history, with her first public act being the founding of the Weenieville fast-food chain sometime in the 20th Century. The restaurant merely served as a means to infect the world's population with evil-contaminated food, which she then activated after luring in and killing Ash Williams in the main Detroit location.[13] With Evil Ash reborn and an almost-instantaneous Deadite uprising occurring, the world fell to the evil forces without The Chosen One there to stand against them.[14]

During this attack on humanity, Evil Ash "shattered" the Mirror Dimension, and Sheila's spirit was released. With her original body long-gone, Sheila's spirit opted to inhabit the body of her doppelganger, internally fighting with the clone for control over it. After Ash Williams returned from a jaunt across the multiverse, he confronted his evil counterpart inside a Detroit penthouse, where Sheila revealed to him that her good-self had returned.[15]

Adventures In The Apocalypse[]

Though Ash defeated his double and destroyed the Deadite legion, the world was still a post-apocalyptic wasteland.[16] Driving out of Detroit in search for answers on how to undo these events, Ash and Sheila were then captured by a mutant gang and taken to Cleveland, Ohio, where Ash was to play in "The Boss Man's" games, while Sheila was to be The Boss Man's newest concubine.[17][18] Williams escaped the arena with the aid of a mutant boy named Wikkie, though he soon returned to rescue Sheila and recover the Necronomicon. After killing the Boss Man, a Red Demon and the Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse had arrived to gather the blood of The Chosen One to ink the final page of the Necronomicon Ex-Libris and usher in the new age of The Dark Ones, though Williams opted to use his own blood himself and rewrite history.[19]

History Changed[]

Upon returning to the world as it was before the apocalypse, Sheila was shocked to discover that Ash had not only erased certain events from history, but had also made it so that he had erased his memories of his battles against evil.[20] While Sheila initially liked this more "mild-mannered" Ash, she soon realized he was a coward after the couple had been lured back to the cabin in the woods by agents of Baba Yaga (who was attempting to claim the Necronomicon for herself). Ash fled the scene after the Deadites began invade the cabin, leaving Sheila to fight the undead alone.[21] Discovered by the TARD agency, Sheila was reunited with Madeline "Sugarbaby" Rothleschilde, who had served alongside her in Evil Ash's harem during the apocalypse (though Sugarbaby had no recollection of such events).[22] Together, the two managed to track down Williams to a Hell House, where Ash and several others had come seeking answers to the strange "forgotten memories" inside Ash's head. Both Sheila and Sugarbaby stayed back from the frontlines as a battle between the physical avatars of the Seven Deadly Sins broke out around them, eventually causing the Hell House to collapse on top of itself, though everyone managed to escape unscathed.[23]

Back In Time[]

Immediately following the incident at the Hell House, Ash and Sheila returned to 1300 AD, where they soon discovered from The Wise Man that a year-long "War of The Dead" had broken out shortly after Ash's departure, and Lord Arthur and Henry The Red had fallen in battle against the monsters that had come looking for the Necronomicon. It was then that The Wise Man also informed them that Ash had been chosen to be the next ruler of Castle Kandar after Arthur and Henry's untimely demise, having foreseen his return to this era. Ash elected to say in 1300 AD under the condition that Sheila marry him; a proposal which she joyfully accepted. The night before the wedding, Ash was attacked by the undead Arthur and Henry, but was fortunately saved by Sheila's resurrected brother, who managed to fight the evil possessing him to save his sister's true love. The following morning, on what was to be the day of their wedding, Ash called off his engagement after being told by The Wise Man that if she were to remain at his side, she would meet a horrible fate instigated by the forces of evil. Presented with an opportunity to save his love, Ash opted to leave 1300 AD and return to his proper time in order to spare Sheila from her inevitable demise. Before parting, Ash used the Necronomicon to turn Sheila's brother fully human once more in order for him to watch over her. Embracing one last time, Sheila, her brother, and The Wise Man watched as walked alone into the sunset to return to the 21st Century.[1]

What happened to Sheila following these events remains unknown.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Chosen One: Sheila was unknowingly the Chosen One of 1300 AD,[5] a status which presumably made her one of the few humans who could actually stand a chance in a battle against the Deadites (much like Ash Williams). It's possible that Sheila's Chosen One status also allowed her soul to survive much longer in the Mirror Dimension than an average human could, though this remains unconfirmed.
