Prophecy was a seven-issue crossover comic released by Dynamite Entertainment in 2012. Written by Ron Marz and featuring art by Walter Geovani, the series was intended to capitalize on the wildly misinterpreted "Mayan doomsday" phenomenon.

Plot Synopsis[]

Having followed the evil wizard Kulan Gath across time, the Hyborian Age warrior known as Red Sonja arrives in the year 2012 to discover that her nemesis has already set into motion an ancient prophecy that will result in the end of humanity. Fortunately, Sonja discovers that she is not alone in her battle, as both monsters and heroes alike native to the 21st Century have already united to stop the mad sorcerer's plot, which includes Vampirella, Dracula, Eva, Pantha, Herbert West, and Athena.

Kulan Gath then awakens seven malicious Mayan Gods and sends them across the seven continents of the Earth to wreak havoc, forcing the team of misfits to split up and follow them. Herbert West is sent to Las Vegas to take on one of these gods, but is mortally wounded in the battle. By sheer coincidence (or perhaps destiny), Ash Williams is on vacation in Vegas, and manages to pick up West's slack by killing the god himself. After resurrecting Herbert with the doctor's own Re-Animation formula, West brings Ash up to speed on what's going on.

Williams joins the team, and aids them in the final battle against Gath and an army of skeletons in the Yucatan jungle. When the day is saved, the world is restored, Ash stands alongside the triumphant heroes as the chaos brought on by the wizard is erased.

Trivia[]

  • Ash Williams does not appear in-full in this series until issue four, though his chainsaw and Boomstick make a cameo in a "time window" in issue one.
    • Despite being advertised as one of the major players of the series, Ash does not appear on any of the covers for this series, although Bruce Campbell's likeness is used for the character Dorian Grey on issue six's cover.
  • Prophecy was Dynamite's first large-scale crossover event, and featured many characters from public domain and licensed franchises the had the rights to at the time, including: Red Sonja, Vampirella, Army of Darkness, Sherlock Holmes, Alan Quartermain, Dorian Grey, The Lone Ranger, The Green Hornet, Project Superpowers, Jungle Girl, The Shadow, The Phantom, Re-Animator, Athena, Blackbeard, Zorro, Flash Gordon, and Evil Ernie.

Continuity Notes[]

  • Ash and Herbert West recognize each other from their previous encounter. West is friendly to Ash in this series as he is the "real" version that escaped the Mirror Dimension in Army of Darkness vs. Re-Animator #4, not the evil doppelganger Williams encountered in Arkham Asylum.
  • Ash had previously met Eva and Dracula during the events of Ash Vs. The Classic Monsters, though this encounter is not mentioned in this series.
