Jenny was an S-Mart employee who was the assistant manager in the Arts & Crafts department. Sometime after his return from 1300 AD, Jenny began a romantic relationship with her co-worker Ash Williams. Jenny would accompany Williams on a return trip to the cabin in the woods eight years after his first visit in an attempt to help quell his recurring nightmares about it, though she would eventually be captured by Ash's evil doppelganger shortly after their arrival.

Jenny first appeared in the 2000 video game Evil Dead: Hail To The King. She was voiced by Erin Ashe.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Very little is known about Jenny's life prior to the incident at the cabin, though at some point she began working at S-Mart, and was assigned to the Arts & Crafts department, where she worked her way up to the position of assistant manager. Sometime between 1992 and 2000, Jenny began a relationship with a co-worker from the Housewares department: Ash Williams.

Encounter With The Deadites[]

By the year 2000, Ash began having recurring nightmares and visions about the cabin and the evil creatures he battled there years prior. Jenny initially believed Ash to be crazy for thinking there was any meaning behind these visions, but agreed to help him overcome this trauma. The two agreed to venture to the Knowby cabin in an attempt to quell Ash's fears, only for the Kandarian Demon and the spirits of the Deadites to be awakened once more by Ash's severed hand activating Professor Knowby's tape recorder. Jenny was abducted by the Kandarian Demon on behalf of Evil Ash, the twisted doppelganger of her boyfriend.

Ash eventually encountered a man named Father Allard, a priest who had allegedly worked with Raymond Knowby during the professor's initial translation of the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis years prior. Allard claimed that Jenny could still be saved, though he needed the missing pages of the Necronomicon to do so. Ash wasted no time in gathering the pages of the Ex-Mortis spread across the woods, and met up with Allard back at the Knowby cabin. Inside, Ash found Allard with Jenny, who had been possessed by a Deadite spirit. Using the Necronomicon and the Kandarian Dagger, Allard opened a rift in time which safely extracted the Deadite spirit from Jenny's body. However, no sooner than Jenny was released of her possession, Allard revealed himself to be Evil Ash in disguise, grabbing Jenny and disappearing into the time rift with her.

The rift took Evil Ash and Jenny to the city of Damascus, circa 730 AD. Here, Evil Ash aligned himself with a mysterious order known as "The Guild", who had become corrupted by the evil influence of The Dark Ones after discovering a series of texts they had left behind in the world of the living. Both Evil Ash and The Guild intended to open a rift to bring The Dark Ones back to the mortal plane and usher in a new eternal age of darkness, though Evil Ash ultimately betrayed The Guild and fled into the Cathedral of The Dead with only himself and Jenny. Once inside the cathedral, Jenny was placed in a trance as Evil Ash prepared her to be a living sacrifice for The Dark Ones to consume, which would allow them to return to the Earthly realm. Before Evil Ash could complete this, his "good" counterpart arrived, battling his doppelganger in a fight to the death. The human Ash emerged victorious, and used pages from the Necronomicon to close the rift and save Jenny. With evil defeated once more, Ash and Jenny returned to Dearborn, Michigan... only to discover they were now in a world in which the Necronomicon had become a best-selling book, spreading it's evil to the masses.[1]

Fate[]

Ash and Jenny eventually returned to their proper world, though Jenny would be killed in a bus crash shortly after their return. By 2003, three years later, Jenny's death would still be a sore-subject for Ash.[2]

DeaditeJenny-FistfulOfBoomstickEarlyTrailer

Deadite Jenny, as she appeared in the early trailers of Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick, which reused footage from the early version of Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dearborn.

  • Trailers for Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick used cutscene test footage from an earlier version of the game during it's development at Heavy Iron Studios (while under the title of Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dearborn). The footage from this trailer picks up immediately where Evil Dead: Hail To The King ended, with Ash and Jenny standing outside of a bookstore. The footage also shows Jenny being attacked by the Kandarian Demon and turned into a Deadite, maniacally laughing before lunging at Ash. Whether or not Jenny would have survived the events of Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dearborn remain unknown, though her ultimate fate would be changed after the game was partially scrapped and overhauled into Fistful of Boomstick after moving development studios.
  • Despite popular misconception, Jenny was not intended to be the same character as the female S-Mart employee portrayed by Angela Featherstone at the end of the Army of Darkness film, as Ash states in the opening of Evil Dead: Hail To The King that Jenny thought his recurring visions of monsters was "crazy". Had she been the same woman Ash saved in Army of Darkness, she would have already known about the existence of the Deadites.
    • This misconception carried over into the 2023 comic series Army of Darkness Forever, in which the unnamed female S-Mart employee (Angela Featherstone's character in the Army of Darkness film) was given the name "Jenny".
