James Williams was a United States Government agent active in Chicago, Illinois in the late 1920s, and a member of Eliot Ness' "Untouchables". He was the father of Kent Williams and the unnamed man who would one day father Ash and Cheryl Williams.
The first and only appearance of James Williams was in Army of Darkness (Volume 3) #9.
Biography[]
Not much is known about James Williams before his untimely death, except after serving with the United States Army, he graduated from the University of Maryland and later became a Federal Agent. At some point, he was married and had the first of two children, Kent Williams. Before his death, he discovered that his wife was expecting their second child.[1]
Death[]
In 1929, James was held captive by two gangsters named Jerry Scaletti and Jasper Tate, and was severely beaten during an interrogation for refusing to give up any information he had on a book known as the Necronomicon. Williams legitimately knew nothing about the true nature of the book Scaletti and Tate were after, as both James and his fellow "Untouchables" believed the Necronomicon to be the code name of a ledger of Al Capone's business associates. James managed to break free of his bindings and attack Scaletti, but his victory was short-lived, as the mutated muscular pig-man Jasper Tate quickly killed Williams.[1]
Legacy[]
Mere hours after the James' murder, his demon-fighting grandson from the future, Ash Williams, would arrive in Chicago. Ash bore a striking resemblance to his fallen grandfather, which made several of those who knew him (including Eliot Ness) think Ash was James. After encountering Ness, Ash revealed that his middle name was James, named after his "Grandpa Jim".[1]
