On February 5th, 2024, online entertainment news website Deadline announced that Sébastien Vaniček had been selected by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert to write and direct an Evil Dead spin-off film.[1] On February 6th, Vaniček elaborated on the project in an interview with French pop culture website Konbini, stating that Warner Bros. (parent company of New Line Cinema) wanted a film that was not connected to the previous Evil Dead installments, and that Sam Raimi gave him complete creative control over the film. Vaniček also stated he wanted to start filming by the end of 2024/early 2025, with an estimated release date of October, 2025.[2] Speaking to French entertainment news group Première, Vaniček also explained that the film would feature a French main character that speaks English "and finds himself surrounded by American characters", but wanted to retain a French style to the film.[3] On December 9th, 2024, Vaniček posted the cover to the scrip on his official Instagram profile, revealing that the film would be titled Evil Dead Burn, with a new release date of 2026.[4]
