Evil Dead 2: Revenge of Hitler was a one-shot comic released by Space Goat Productions in March, 2016. Written by Ian Edginton and featuring art by Larry Watts, this issue was the first in the "Evil Dead 2: Revenge of..." series.

Plot Synopsis[]

Outside of a large modern movie theater in present day Berlin, a small tornado of fire, dust, and lighting disrupts the snow-covered parking lot. In the heart of the tiny storm, a skeleton begins to form and rapidly grown muscles and skin upon it's frame. The tornado begins to dissipate, revealing the reborn Adolf Hitler, his skin glowing with strange markings that have seemingly been tattooed into him. After being mocked by the witnesses to his "rebirth", Hitler determines that the world has "truly descended into a mongrel state", and now is his time to finally rule.

Several days later, the simulacrum Ash Williams is living in a Texas trailer park, only to suddenly find himself (and the trailer) teleported into the depths of Hell itself. Grabbing a chainsaw and shotgun, Ash heads out to find himself confronted by a giant three-headed demon named Hastur. The creature explains that in the final days of World War II, Adolf Hitler had dozens of incantations and spells from the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis tattooed on his body in an attempt to prevent his death, only for his spirit to be trapped between worlds. After someone on the internet discovered the incantation and spoke it aloud, Hitler was revived, and is now trying to assemble an army of the damned to wage war on the living and the dead. Hastur then says that they cannot fight Hitler alone, as they might fall under his powers of persuasion, and that Ash Williams has become something of a legendary figure in the underworld as a demon-slayer. They offer to remove the simulacrum's inner-Deadite in return for killing Hitler, and Ash agrees.

After wandering through Hell, Ash finds Hitler giving a speech to rally his new army, only for Williams to interrupt him. Ash tries to shoot Adolf point-blank in the chest, but finds that Hitler is seemingly indestructible, protected by the incantations tattooed on him. Ash is thrown around by the super-powered dictator for a bit, only to realize that portions of Hitler's body that are not covered with spells are his weak points. Williams delivers a swift kick to Hitler's crotch and grabs his shotgun, blasting a round into Hitler's head.

With Adolf Hitler dead (again), Ash returns to Hastur, only for the demon to say that their debt to him would be seen as a sign of weakness. Realizing the creature screwed him, he shoots two of the three heads, and questions the final head if it's going to hold up the deal or not. The remaining head replies that it could have if the other two had not been destroyed, but the most it can do now is send him back to the world of the living. Ash climbs back in the trailer and warns the demon that if they ever try any funny business with him again, he knows where they live.

Trivia[]

  • Revenge of Hitler was the only comic in Space Goat's Evil Dead 2 line to sell out during it's original release. Because of this, a second printing was issued and released in May, 2016, which featured a dark-sepia variation of the original's "main" cover.

Continuity Notes[]

  • The events of the Beyond Dead By Dawn series are mentioned and depicted in a flashback.
  • The events of this issue would later be mentioned in the Revenge of Evil Ed series from 2017.
  • While the Revenge of Krampus one-shot released in December, 2016 would continue the story of Ash in the trailer park seen in Revenge of Hitler, that comic is of dubious canoncy to the larger Evil Dead 2 comic continuity.
