Evil Ash was a supernaturally-created clone of Ash Williams. The physical manifestation of the original Ash's "dark side", this Deadite doppelganger has battled his "good" counterpart on several occasions over the years.
This version of Evil Ash is exclusive to the Earth-818793 continuity. He first appeared as a brief cameo in Army of Darkness: Ashes 2 Ashes #1, but later made his full debut in Ashes 2 Ashes #3.
History[]
Creation (1300 AD)[]
Evil Ash first manifested while Ash Williams was on a quest to retrieve the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis in the year 1300 AD. Originally a "Mini-Ash" that was swallowed by the original, Evil Ash later became the leader of a Deadite army that attempted to take the Ex-Mortis from Castle Kandar, only to be stopped by the combined armies of Lord Arthur and Henry The Red. This original iteration of Evil Ash was destroyed by Ash Williams after being tricked into standing on a catapult loaded with a bag of gunpowder.[1]
Some time shortly after this, Evil Ash returned in the form of Ash tree when Sheila sought to use the supernatural energies of the haunted graveyard to open a time rift to the 21st Century. This tree form was promptly destroyed by Sheila using Ash's chainsaw when they were reunited in Egypt after her successful opening of the time portal.[2]
Resurrection In The 21st Century[]
Evil Ash's third incarnation was created via the severed hand of the original Ash Williams bonding to the skeletal remains of an ancient Egyptian warrior hidden within the Tomb of The Necronomicon.[3] Conjuring a new "army of darkness" to stop the good Ash from destroying the Necronomicon, Evil Ash was eventually caught at the center of an explosion in the temple ruins, and died by drowning in sand.[4]
"Digi-Ash"[]
Through means unknown, Evil Ash's spirit was then teleported through time to the 24th Century, where it was trapped within the Necronomicon computer program. It was there that he briefly assumed control over a endless wave of "Deaduns" (a variation of Deadite with all of their powers but none of the "personality", and behaved more like mindless zombies). Ash Williams had arrived in 2501 AD and attempted to use the Necronomicon program to get back to the 21st Century, only to get pulled into the digital landscape and come face to face with his clone once again.[5] Williams managed to escape the world of the computer and bring the Necronomicon program to a more technology-savvy organization, where they opened a time rift for him to return to his era of origin. Unbeknownst to Ash, his doppelganger and the digital Deaduns were also sent back in time.[6]
Trapped In The Mirror Dimension[]
In the months that followed, Evil Ash's spirit was banished into the Mirror Dimension, a plane of existence which purely serves as a prison for Deadite spirits and the unfortunate souls who have been "swallowed" by them. In this dimension, Evil Ash took the form of a giant caterpillar, modeled after the character from Alice's Adventures In Wonderland. During Ash Williams' escape from Arkham Asylum, he had been dragged into the dimension by another doppelganger, a new entity separate from Evil Ash known as "Hatter Ash". Evil Ash shadowed his human counterpart to an underground sanctuary where the souls of Sheila, Herbert West, and "H.P." had taken refuge from the monsters above, breaking in and launching a surprise attack. While Ash managed to get away and eventually escape the Mirror Dimension, Sheila stayed behind and fought off Evil Ash.[7] The exact outcome of this skirmish is unknown, though it is assumed that one of the parties involved retreated, resulting in a draw.
Monsters In Manhattan[]
Back in Egypt, Evil Ash's corpse was discovered by the recently resurrected Dracula, who now possessed a copy of the Necronomicon. Dracula recruited Evil Ash and his mummy army to aid him in his siege of New York City, an offer which Evil Ash accepted.[8] Shortly after returning from a side-trip to 1599, Ash Williams was confronted by his clone on the city's streets, but this encounter was cut-short when Frankenstein's Monster punched a hole straight through the doppelganger's chest.[9]
Evil Ash Prime[]

Evil Ash Prime takes over the original Ash's body (The Death of Ash #13)
Several weeks after the incident in New York, Ash (along with his companion Sugarbaby) were lured into a trap at a Weenieville restaurant operated by an evil clone of Sheila in Detroit.[10] The captured Williams had his "good" soul expelled from his body and sent to the afterlife, while Evil Ash's spirit took control of the empty frame.[11] Now calling himself "Evil Ash Prime", the dark aspect of The Chosen One wasted no time in leading an attack on humanity, and (through means unknown) "shattered" the Mirror Dimension, releasing every single Deadite held within onto the world of the living.[12]
Decades passed, and Evil Ash Prime had grown tired of ruling with no opposition, finding that his afterlife without The Chosen One to fight almost meaningless.[13] The good Ash eventually returned after a journey through the multiverse, and immediately set out to stop his clone once and for all. The Necronomicon in Prime's possession warned him of Ash's return, which led to the doppelganger eagerly anticipating his climatic battle with his "brother". With the aid of several mutant natives of this strange new world, Ash led an attack on Prime's penthouse overlooking the dead city. When finally coming face to face, Prime mutated his own body into a more monstrous form with two heads. With nothing more than his fists, Ash managed to beat his clone to a bloody pulp, and completely eviscerated the two heads using his gauntlet hand.[14]
Eventually, Williams was able to alter history to prevent his death at the Weenieville restaurant and ensure that Evil Ash Prime and the world of the dead never came to be.[15]
Empire of The General[]
After Ash Williams grew too old to be bothered with fighting legions of the undead on a constant basis, eventually enough managed to break through into the world of the living that they overwhelmed the human population, leading to a complete takeover in no time. Evil Ash also returned, now called "The General" and taking on an appearance which matched his original body during the attack of Castle Kandar in 1300 AD.[16] Several years after their domination over the Earth, a team led by Eva St. George (the daughter of Dracula) sought Ash's help to stop The General and banish evil once and for all. After a journey taking them from Detroit, to Lansing, and finally to a monastery in Grand Rapids, Ash and what remained of Eva's team managed to open a rift that would pull in evil spirits from across the globe. The old Ash and his clone were pulled into the portal in the midst of their battle, sending them to an unknown destination.[17]
Though it is unknown how or when, Ash Williams managed to defeat The General once again and return to his time of origin, and a few decades after that, managed to prevent the age of The General from occurring in the first place.[18]
Powers & Abilities[]

Evil Ash grows his army of the dead (Ashes 2 Ashes #4)
- Deadite Resurrection: Shortly after his own resurrection inside the Tomb of The Necronomicon, Evil Ash demonstrated the ability to reanimate the corpses inside the crypt with a single touch. Outside of this single event, Evil Ash never demonstrated this power again.[4]
- Mutation: Evil Ash Prime was able to mutate his body into new proportions, as well as grow a second head from his shoulders.[14]
- Deadite Control: Perhaps due to him being the antithesis of The Chosen One, Evil Ash was well-respected by "common" Deadites, as he was frequently seen in a commanding role whenever a new army of the undead was summoned.

Notes[]

Evil Ash appeared in a movie about Ash's life (Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash: The Nightmare Warriors #1)
- A fictitious version of Evil Ash also existed on Earth-818793, one which was merely a character in a movie about Ash's life.
