Army of Darkness Roleplaying Game is a 240-page role-playing game guide book released by Eden Studios in June, 2005. Written by Shane Lacy Hensley, it was the second board game based on the Army of Darkness film (preceded by Leading Edge's Army of Darkness Board Game from 1993).
Game Overview[]
Using Eden's "cinematic" Unisystem role-playing game system, one gamemaster and several players play through the events of the Army of Darkness film or several detailed original stories (with either their own original characters or characters from the film, like Ash Williams), battling legions of monsters unleashed by the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis.
Game Scenarios[]
The Army of Darkness Roleplaying Game offers four fleshed-out example game scenarios, each with detailed "scenes", background information, characters, weapons, and locations. Though these scenarios can be treated as separate entities or be played in any order, each story features a direct connection to a previous chapter, establishing all of them share a single continuity.
"Gilga-Ash"[]
Loosely inspired by The Epic of Gilgamesh, this scenario takes place in the Mesopotamian city of Kandar, circa 3000 BC. A high priest by the name of Urigan has formed an alliance with an ancient demon known as "The Watcher In The Woods", and has unleashed a series of demonic terrors upon Kandar's residents. With the aid of his newly formed cult, The Dark Ones, Urigan is in the midst of compiling the secrets of the evil powers at play in a tome of their own creation known as the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis. A small group of human resistance fighters have gathered just beyond the city limits, where their own leader Enkidu plans to kill Urigan and use the high priest's tome to turn The Watcher into a creature of flesh that can be destroyed.
"War Is Hell"[]
In 1944, Allied forces are closing in on Germany as they make their way through the European theater. Unbeknownst to them, Adolf Hitler has acquired the Necronomicon and the Spear of Destiny, and has begun unleashing the demons mentioned within the Book of The Dead's pages on the opposing armies. The Allied forces soon discover that Hitler plans to use the book in the castle of Ludwig the Mad: Neuschwanstein, where it was said the former owner had held dark ceremonies and summoned evil forces before.
"The Future Dead"[]
Near the end of the 21st Century, a Deadite outbreak spirals out of a small Michigan town and spreads across the globe in a matter of months. With the militaries of the world only making matters worse by mutating the monsters with their nuclear bombs, only a few pockets of human societies remained in the years that followed. In 2093 AD, a London-based human resistance fighters have a new spark of hope ignited with them as a "Promised One" destined to destroy the forces of evil once and for all has arrived in their time. The rebels arm themselves with legendary Excalibur (as well as the Spear of Destiny) and prepare for one last stand against The Watcher In The Woods at the Palace of Westminster.
"Once More Unto The Breach"[]
In the aftermath of the great battle of Castle Kandar in 1300 AD, one lone Deadite avoided the battle altogether and hid within the dark forest, waiting for instructions from The Watcher In The Woods. Evil knows the Necronomicon still resides in the castle, and a Deadite is dispatched to steal it. Slowly but surely the undead legion grows it's numbers, and Evil Ash (now nothing more than a severed head) leads the new "army of darkness".
