Army of Darkness 3

Army of Darkness was a three issue limited series published by Dark Horse Comics in 1992. It was the first comic book to be based off a film in The Evil Dead franchise. The story is a faithful adaptation (almost word for word) of the film of the same name. It was written by Sam and Ivan Raimi and was illustrated by John Bolton.

Differences From The Film

Not much is different from the Army of Darkness film but there are a few minor changes and scenes that were cut from the final film.

Scenes Based On Deleted Sequences

  • When Ash arrives in 1300 A.D. The Wise Man tells Arthur that Ash is The Chosen One. Arthur says that he thinks differently and swipes at Ash, causing a cut. He then proclaims that The Chosen One written of in The Necronomicon does not bleed, and it's likely that he is one of Henry The Red's men. Ash then knocks Arthur off his horse with his chainsaw, but before he can do any more damage, someone with a spiked mace hits him on the back of the head, knocking him out.
  • Ash rides over to Henry The Red's territory to ask for his help for the final battle at Arthur's castle.
  • The story ends with the alternate ending of the film, where Ash drinks too much of The Wise Man's sleeping potion and wakes up in a post-apocalyptic world.

Comic-Exclusive Scenes

  • While Ash is in the Pit, more than two Deadites are shown to reside there.
  • The location of where The Wise Man tells Ash he must retrieve The Necronomicon is different, instead of inside the castle, Ash is taken to ruins of an ancient temple, where all that remains of the building is pillars. When the Deadite woman stirring the cauldron attacks, she knocks over the pillars, causing a domino like effect. This was scene was originally going to be featured in film, even going as far as to have a model of the temple built, but was scrapped for budgetary reasons late into production.
